On the 18th November Amber Rudd made a speech entitled “New Direction for UK Energy Policy” which had been eagerly awaited as a “policy re-set”. 

It received a mixed response. The proposed switch from coal to gas was akin to "trying to go dry by switching from vodka to super strength cider" according to Green MP Caroline Lucas.
