KEY PRIORITIES

The key low carbon priorities for the Liverpool City Region centre around transformational actions in energy generation, smart networks, low carbon transport and a low carbon built environment.

In energy generation the City Region is focused on utilising its key natural assets to generate power. Our river and coastal assets allow the development of large-scale on and offshore windfarms and tidal energy generation from the River Mersey.

It is the City Region's intention to become a centre for SmartGrid technology. SmartGrid will combine strengths in energy generation and distribution with data, communications and consumer behaviour and service quality.

Low carbon transport is focused on vehicle production and fuel supply building on existing City Region strengths centred on the Jaguar Land Rover production facility and its associated R&D and supply chain expertise. Fuel supply and production focuses on alternative fuels such as synthetic biofuels and fuel cell technology.

A low carbon built environment will transform the performance of existing building stock, both residential and commercial. Retrofitting technologies and practices will be further developed by existing City Region companies in the Environment Technology Sector in partnership with private sector developers and Registered Social Landlords (RSL's).
