CWEA Area Map

The Cheshire and Warrington sub region  encompasses the city of Chester and the towns of Warrington, Ellesmere Port, Macclesfield, Northwich, Crewe, and Congleton to name but a few.

The area is split into the three unitary local authorities of Cheshire East, Cheshire West & Chester and Warrington.

KEY CONTACT

Cheshire and Warrington Enterprise Commission  (CEWC) (formerly Cheshire & Warrington Economic Alliance) is one of five Sub Regional Partnerships (SRPs) in the Northwest working with partners to help deliver the Northwest Regional Economic Strategy (RES). As the designated SRP it is the conduit for economic development strategies, activity and funding across Cheshire and Warrington.

CWEC is also one of 7 new Commissions that provide sub-regional focus in the Cheshire & Warrington area.

Kate Radford is the Climate Change Programme Manager for CWEC and works with a wide range of private, public and community sector partners across the sub region.

Under a Local Government Reorganisation process Cheshire County Council and the six districts that sat underneath it have been restructured to form two new authorities Cheshire East Council and Cheshire West & Chester Council which will sit alongside the existing Warrington Borough Council. These new Cheshire authorities came into full existance on April 1st 2009 and as the two new authorites Climate Change plans take shape these sections will be updated.

LOCAL GROUPS

Cheshire & Warrington Climate Change Group

This group meets throughout the year to discuss Climate Change issues and activities throughout the sub-region. It is made up of members from many organisations including Local Authorities, Groundwork Cheshire, Environment Agency, Cheshire & Warrington Enterprise Commission, Mersey Forest, Cheshire Community Action, Natural England, Reaseheath College, NFU, Cheshire Association of Local Councils, Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service, National Trust, Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group, Energy Projects Plus, as well as regionally important businesses such as Scottish & Southern Energy, Astra Zeneca and Manchester Airport

Cheshire & Warrington Low Carbon Communities Network

There are a growing number of low carbon communities within Cheshire & Warrington which now meet as part of a sub-regional network, supported by the three local authorities, the Low Carbon Communities Network, Cheshire Community Action and the Transition Towns network.

Two of our low carbon communities, Ashton Hayes and Sustainable Blacon have received large amounts of funding from the Department of Energy & Climate Change, throught the Low Carbon Communities Challenge which is great news. KEY PRIORITIES

Energy Efficiency Advice Centres

The Energy Saving Trust Advice Centres provide free and impartial advice to householders about energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. Advice is given about grants and cashback schemes that are available for loft and cavity wall insulation. Information is also available about transport issues such as eco-driving and low emission vehicles. The free phone number is 0800 512 012.

There are two centres covering the Cheshire and Warrington area due to them having different boundaries however the telephone number is the same and your call will be routed to the local centre for specific advice and services available in your area:

Eco Schools

 Kingsmead1

Kingsmead Primary School in Northwich (pictured)  is an exemplary school designed and built around an ethos of sustainability and consideration for the environment. Cheshire plays host to other exemplar Eco Schools too and holds a Sustainable Schools Conference each year. Information on the 2009 conference can be found here - this year's event will be held in November 2010.
