ENGAGING SCHOOLS WITH CARBON REDUCTION
Thirty eight members of staff from local authorities and NGO's across the North West region attended a workshop on Tuesday 25th May 2010 to discuss engaging schools with carbon reduction.

17th November 2010 This half-day workshop provided an update for NW local authorities on the Carbon Reduction Commitment scheme, with speakers from the Environment Agency and the London Energy Project.

This event, hosted by Manchester City Council, and organised by Envirolink focused on identifying finance options for, and case studies of, carbon reduction projects within local authorities.

UNDERSTANDING ENERGY: ELECTRICITY GRIDS AND RENEWABLE ENERGY CONNECTIONS - WARRINGTON
This free
half day session provided a comprehensive introduction to energy
demand and supply, including the electricity grid network and
connecting renewable energy projects to the grid. This informative,
interactive and practical session equipped delegates with the
comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the electricity
energy generation.

STAND
ALONE RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY TECHNOLOGIES
This full day session provided comprehesive
information on stand alone renewable electricity technologies. With
a mix of presentations, case study material and discussion, the
session equipped planners with the firm understanding of stand
alone renewable energy systems.

FOR PLANNERS
Planning for Low Carbon Energy This event, run by the Combined Heat and Power Association and sponsored by CLASP took place in Manchester on 4th March 2009.
Sustainable
Design and Low Carbon Buildings
This session supported planners from local planning authorities to understand the key principles behind sustainable design, and equipped them skills, knowledge and confidence to influence development proposals and put policy into practice.

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY - SPATIAL PLANNING
This two day training event helped senior elected members to develop climate change skills in planning.
ELECTED MEMBER TRAINING - SMALL SCALE RENEWABLES FOR PLANNING COMMITTEE MEMBERS
This training event provided information on the types of renewable energy installations planning committee members are increasing required to make decisions on, and how to assess these.
ELECTED MEMBERS - INTRODUCTION TO LA RESPONSIBILITIES - 30TH JUNE 2010
This training event, which received excellent feedback, helped elected members understand the requirements placed on Local Authorities to tackle climate change, and how to manage these.

Where's the Carbon In Local Transport, and What Can Be Done To Reduce It? Thursday 11th November 2010 This workshop tackled these linked questions in the context of Local Transport Plan development.

This very popular event examined 3 aspects of climate change and transport in the NW: 1. Regional and Local Policy 2. Adaptation of the NW Transport Network to Climate Change 3. The Role of Smarter Choices.

This full-day workshop looked at the climate change risk assessment process and shared the results of how the CLASP programme has been supporting 5 NW authorities to apply this to key services.

SUPPORT WORKSHOP - 2009
This over-subscribed event was held on 24.03.09 in Preston. The aim of the event was to review progress to date, particularly focussing on lessons learnt and highlighting successes/achievements.

5th - 9th October saw UKCIP visit the North West to run a series of training sessions on accessing and using the UKCP09 climate projections. The week was launched with a morning of speakers and discussion.
NI 188 SUPPORT WORKSHOp - 2008
This workshop took place on 02/10/08 and was run by UKCIP. The focus of the day was on the emerging guidance for NI 188. Presentations were given by Defra, UKCIP and regional authorities.

This one-day course on environmental communications and behaviour change equipped delegates with a basic understanding of: the principles of effective environmental behaviour change.
