Achieving the vision of a well-adapting Northwest
Within the five stage framework of value assessment, risk assessment, response exploration, response implementation and review, we have commissioned several projects to fulfill these requirements. These are actions within the Regional Climate Change Action Plan.
A sectoral risk assessment has been completed by Ove Arup on behalf of the North West Climate Change Partnership (Action 1.3; see here for report).
Building on earlier work in relation to the planning and use of Green infrastructure (GI), Community Forests North West have taken the lead on an assessment of the ability of GI to combat climate change and the targetting of effective action (Action 4.3). See here for information. For promotional flyer click here.

Complementing this work we have joined forces with the EU Interreg IV-funded GRaBS project, sharing knowledge and best practise with European partners working towards using Green and Blue spaces in Urban Areas to lessen the impacts of future climate change.
Natural England have taken the lead in developing a method for assessing the risk to the natural environment, ecosystem services, habitats and species (Action 4.5) and identifying the responses required to manage that risk. See here for report on the "Cumbria High Fells Pilot Project".

The Environment Agency is the lead organisation for Action 4.4 as it's Catchment Flood Risk Management Plan (CFMPs) programme and strategic overview role in the regions Shoreline Management Plans (SMPs) will provide the long term planning documents for flood risk and coastal erosion across the region and take account of future climate change. To enhance this action URS Corporation Limited were commisioned to assess the economic impact of flood risk associated with climate change. To download a full copy of the report click here.
